Michigan Beaver island since we all know it first appeared out of the ice eleven thousand years before. Since that time, its form has transformed noticeably due to the rise and fall of Lake Michigan, that has ranged above a differential of 375'. The Lake dropped to a really low level almost 8,000 years back, and stayed down for 4,000 years.
During this time period, this area wasn't an island at all but an appendage of the mainland. Then the Lake went up to 30' over its present level, submerging all of Beaver Island with the exception of the central plateau. When a logging railroad was built in 1904, it was located on this firm bed.
We understand that Native Americans passed by Beaver Island as long ago as 2,200 years.
